Clach 1-0 Invergordon
Every day right now, we are getting reports on the news about droughts, hosepipe bans, and people tragically being washed away.
Sadly, the only threat of being swept down the River Ness, was the constant downpour that has been a familiar feature of our Summer in the Highlands.
What should have been an evening of short sleeve shirts and cool drinks, was more a case of hot drinks and umbrellas. Our visitors this evening, having made the relatively short journey over a Firth or two, were hoping to continue with the kind of attitude that has seen them pick up 1 point, but quite a few plaudits in their debut Highland League season. In any other circumstances, we would wish them well, but in this League, it is dog eat dog.
But who this evening was going to be Gnasher, and who was going to be Santa\'s Little Helper?
True to form, we looked to put down a marker through high intensity football, with our passing and moving, giving our visitors all kinds of problems. Ross Logan, scurried about, with a determination that on other days will reap greater rewards, and Jordan Macrae once again demonstrated just what a good all rounder he is.
Likewise Allan Macphee, inspired by his new short back and sides, coulda shoulda had a couple of assists as he teasingly crossed to nobody in particular. Rossi again might have done better had his second touch not deserted him, and generally we looked the more threatening of the two teams.
Indeed, for the majority of this first half, we were totally dominant, but with that lack of clinical edge in the final third that is a curse at home. This frustration manifested in both Allan and Troy Cooper having speculative efforts, but both were as awry as Elon Musks Rocket.
Invergordon did however come back into it, and a shot by Thain might have caused our Jason Statham-esque Mark Ridgers more of a challenge. A flurry of corners may have led our visitors taking a lead into the interval, but it was not to be.
The second half, despite being more even overall, saw us take an early lead, as Michael Finnis found space in the box, to head home from a corner. It helped raise the spirits of a soggy crowd.
Time and again we had chances to increase our lead, but the things that were going our way at Huntly a few days ago, just weren\'t happening today. Troy and Allan had chances, and Harry Nicolson saw his best shot come back off the post.
Again, the defence looked solid and Sam Thompson has demonstrated just what an asset he is going to be this season. Jacob Kerrs tireless running should be enough to warrant MOTM, but no they give it to Jordan. I presume for best beard.
Again, Invergordon might have equalised near the end, but they could not capitalise from a good set piece opportunity. It finished 1-0, but it could so easily have been more.
But, yes, three points, a clean sheet and another game on Saturday at Rothes to look forward to.
We are back here next Tuesday for our first foray into KDM Trophy territory, where we entertain Dundee United B\'. Let\'s get behind the boys and make some noise.
On a personal note, if you were the fella that came into the shop at half time to ask if there is anything we can do. Well, there is. Come and see me when you get a chance.
